Having a Heart of Worship

What is worship and why do we do it? After all, it is common in church to have a worship service? God’s Word tells us that we must give Him praise for all that He has done for us. When we exalt God and give Him the glory, He takes delight in it. Psalm 22:3 states “But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel.”

While it is good to worship the Lord, how do we prepare our heart for worship? In life, we have good times, and we have bad times. Even during our bad times, God is still worthy of our praise! (Revelation 4:11) With this in mind, how do we praise God? Join this discussion as we talk about worship and how to prepare our heart!

One of the most important things we must do is keep our focus on Him. Often times, when we worry about life, that can hinder our worship. Worship is giving our all to God and declaring He is Lord over any situation and anything in life.

Our minds are focused when our thoughts are on the Lord. If not, God cannot be glorified. When you worship, you can start by thanking God for everything He has provided you. (Phillipians 4:6) Praise can turn into worship because you acknowledge it is only by God’s grace that you have been blessed.

Another important aspect is preparing your heart. God cannot move in your life if you do not give Him permission. What does it mean to prepare your heart? Preparing your heart means you search and see if there will be anything that will hinder you. This can include fight with a friend, you have bitterness toward someone, you did not ask God’s forgiveness for a sin, etc.

With this in mind, how do we prepare our heart? We take time and pray. We can go before God and pour out our heart to Him. Jesus tell us in Matthew 5:24 “…First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” In other words, if there are things that need to be made right, go ahead and do so! When our heart is ready for worship, God can move in your life and give you exactly what you need.

As a Christian, it is important for us to take time in worship as we take time in prayer or reading the Bible. Worship is an act of submission to God. If we come with a prepared heard and a focused mind, we can receive what God has for us. God will honor your worship and you will see the move of God in your life because you have chosen Him.
