Having Purpose in a Waiting Season

Ever had a season of waiting or are you currently in one? A waiting period means that you are waiting an answer or you know the answer but you are waiting for God to make a way. A waiting season can be difficult but it serves a greater purpose according to God’s will, even if we do not understand it. But did you know a waiting season can be time of being fruitful and purposeful? Join in today’s discussion to find out how we can be fruitful!

As a Christian, there will come a time when God has us in a waiting season. The duration of the waiting season is dependent on God’s timing and our response to it. We chose to either waste it away or use it to grow our relationship with the Lord. God does not put us through a waiting season without an end result. However, He puts us in a waiting season to grow our character.

James 1: 3-4 states “knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” These verses imply that during our waiting season, God will grow our character if we let Him. While the Lord will do His part, we have to also do our part and seek Him continually. Once your focus is on the Lord, you will live a righteous life.

We know our life is righteous when we obey the word of God. 1 John 3: 7-9 talks about really knowing if you are righteous or not. To summarize, if you study the word of God and you obey everything it says, you are considered righteous in the eyes of the Lord. When the Lord sees your faithfulness and obedience to Him, He will move in your life. So during our waiting season, He expects us to grow closer to Him.

So how do we wait patiently? We keep busy in our waiting season. Use your waiting season as a time to be more close to the Lord than ever. The more we focus on the problem or the waiting struggle, we will lose on focus on who is more important. Our main focus is to know the Lord and to have a close relationship with Him, everything else must become inferior.

Once your mindset is set on the Lord, you will begin to lose your focus on the problem and you will have a heart that will submit to Him, nonetheless. Our pursuit of the Lord should be to not gain our desire but to be submissive to His Will. Once we are submissive, we will be ready to do what He tells us to do. He will also fulfill the desires of your heart if they line up with His Will and plan for your life.

As we discussed earlier, a waiting season is not easy but it can be purposeful. God intends everything for good and not evil. If you are currently in a waiting season, God has you there for a reason! So we should not be focused on our circumstance but we must be busy getting close to the Lord and fulfilling His purpose for our life. Once you do, the waiting season will become a season of joy instead! We should always be in constant pursuit of the Lord whether we are in a waiting season or not. Knowing the Lord is the most joyful experience we can ever have and nothing else will ever compare to that.

Thought for the week: What are you currently waiting on? What can you do to make the waiting season full of purpose?
