The Name of Jesus

We have often heard about the importance of the name of Jesus. But do we know why it is important? The name of Jesus can save, deliver, restore, heal, etc. for anything in our life. How so? The name of Jesus is not like any other name in heaven and on earth. In today’s discussion, we will talk about the power, authority, and even how the name of Jesus can save and deliver us!

The more we know Jesus, the more we know how powerful His Name is. James 2:19 tells us “You believe that there is one God…Even the demons believe—and tremble!” Luke 10:17 also states “…the demons are subject to us in Your name.” The name of Jesus is powerful because there is no other name under heaven. No other name has dominion over the seen and the unseen. In fact, when we look back at the story of creation, God just had to speak it into existence and it was created. However, it is only powerful if you view Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life.

As discussed in previous blogs, we have to know what Jesus means to us. He can be involved in your life as much as you want Him to be involved. However, if you have a personal relationship with Him, you have a continual support and refuge in Him. If God can control and have dominion over everything, how much more can He do in Your life! When we talk about the unseen, we are referring to Satan and his tactics. His only intention is to destroy and turn us away from the Lord. However, if you believe in the Lord and you claim authority in His name, Satan cannot take over your life. Just like the Lord, Satan will have access to your life as much as you allow him.

In addition to the name of Jesus, there is also authority in His Name. In Matthew 28:18, Jesus told His disciples “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” What does He mean by this? When Jesus said this to His disciples, He just rose from the dead and is getting ready to ascend into heaven. When Jesus died and rose again, He defeated Satan and offered a way to no longer be under his control. The Lord has this authority from the beginning but now, He is offering a gift of salvation and to be Lord over our lives. When Jesus is Lord over your life, anything that comes against you from the enemy will not prosper.

Jesus has also given us this authority as well. The authority that Jesus has given is outlined in Mark 16:17-18. It states “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

Jesus did not literally mean that you are invincible against serpents but rather, if God is with you, nothing evil can come against you. Even if it does, God has His protection over you. We have to keep exercising this authority or it will have no meaning to us. Just like exercise, the more we use this authority, the more stronger we will be in the Lord.

One of the most wonderful things about the name of Jesus is that there is deliverance for everyone who believes! The Bible tells us that if we call on the name of the Lord and believe, we will be saved. Even when we are saved, we can still call on the Lord to deliver and help us. All we need to do is believe that He will provide and He will answer according to His Will. Nothing is too impossible with God but sometimes doubt can get in the way of believing that He will answer us. Once we get rid of the doubt and live righteously, God will hear and grant what we are needing. Even if we are struggling with a sin or you need His help in a certain area, God can deliver you when you call on His Name.

As discussed, there is so much in the name of Jesus. It is only through a close walk and relationship with Him that we can truly see all that He can do for us. In Jesus, you will find deliverance and freedom when you call out to Him. You do not have to be saved to call to Jesus, all you need to do is believe and He will hear you. Once you do, you will have everything you need such as deliverance, strength, healing, comfort, etc. However, it is a choice we have to make on whether we believe or not. Believe on the Lord today and it will be the greatest thing you can do today in this life and for eternity.

Thought for the week: What does the name of Jesus mean to you? How can you get to know Him better?
